The Working Life, A 2nd Philosophy Course at Notre Dame

I recently designed and regularly teach a class on the philosophy of work at Notre Dame called The Working Life. The course is part of two, related projects: Ethics at Work, an interdisciplinary cluster of courses focused on ethics and work, and the Sheedy Family Program in Economy, Enterprise, and Society, which I direct in Notre Dame’s College of Arts & Letters. You can see a trailer for the course below.

god and the good life, a first philosophy course at notre dame

I co-designed Notre Dame’s most popular First Philosophy course, God and the Good Life, and still regularly teach between 150 - 300 students per semester. I also helped build out a network devoted to the pedagogical model we developed, and regularly consult with other professors to design similar courses at their home institutions.

“Big Questions,” A series of micro-courses for ND’s Alumni Association

I worked with the Notre Dame Alumni Association to design and create the first two courses in their “Big Questions” series. The first, with Meghan Sullivan, is on virtue ethics and is called “What Makes a Life Good?” The other is a course entitled “What to Believe in Uncertain Times?”

Course Consulting

I regularly provide course consulting for professors interested in Philosophy as a Way of Life. I remain involved in network planning and leadership, and am currently planning several big projects related to PWOL research and curriculum development.
